Working with a mining company, an apparel company (owner of brands such as Stella McCartney and Puma), and a conservation organization to improve understanding of the benefits of regenerative grazing programs in degraded rangelands of Mongolia. Applying cutting-edge science using earth observations. Oyu Tolgoi will use this information to monitor the impacts of their mining offsets and Kering will apply it in the assessment of sustainable cashmere supply chains. Identified reforestation areas based on ecosystem services and their benefits to people. Co-developed and applied the Restoration Opportunities Optimization Tool (ROOT), an ecosystem service software tool, to identify restoration opportunities that provide the greatest benefits at the lowest cost. Partners: International Union for Conservation and Nature (IUCN).

The Belizean government used InVEST to engage stakeholders and devise a plan that improves coastal protection, tourism and lobster revenues, while also reducing human impacts on coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass beds.

Now other countries are looking to do the same.

There are approximately 16,000 golf courses in the USA, spread across a variety of social and ecological contexts; urban to rural, forest to swamp, grassland to desert. Economically, golf courses contribute billions of dollars to the economy and create jobs for local communities. Environmentally, golf courses require inputs of water, nutrients and pesticides and can be taxing.
