Postdoctoral Scholar, University of Miami

Carlie Dario

Carlie Dario is a postdoctoral scholar based at the University of Miami. She is part of the NatCap team working on the National Science Foundation’s Large Scale Coastlines and People (CoPe) project: Strong Coasts. As an interdisciplinary social scientist, her research involves integrating methods that explicitly and equitably account for the monetary and non-monetary values of coral reefs and mangroves in Miami, Belize, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. She is also interested in how these values can pave the way for an inclusive green work force for coastal nature-based solutions.

Carlie earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Policy at the University of Miami, exploring methods in environmental economics and policy analysis to investigate the values of coastal nature-based in Florida. Prior her Ph.D, Carlie obtained her Masters of Professional Science in Marine Conservation from the University of Miami, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the Ateneo de Manila University in Manila, Philippines. Carlie has also worn many hats in her career, serving as a program manager for science education, a conservation spatial analyst, and a community facilitator for marine protected area management in island nations such as the Philippines and Palau.
